The purpose of this standard is to ensure that teachers go above and beyond to make their classroom environment the best it can be. This means that they should collaborate with other teachers, parents, administrators, and professionals within their subject(s) to provide the environment best fit for their students. By involving themselves with these people and getting their opinions, they can be exposed to new outlooks on education and create lessons in ways they never thought of before. This standard is important to the teaching profession because it ensures that teachers are not only teaching the students from their perspective, but from the perspective of other teachers, parents, and professionals.

Observations
During my coursework, I had the chance to observe in a high school English classroom at William Byrd High School. I kept field logs that detailed several aspects of the teacher’s classroom and lessons. I’ve also had several opportunities to observe in a variety of classrooms during my internship and student teaching. By watching other educators teach and paying attention to the way they formulate their lessons and classrooms, you can integrate new ideas into your existing lesson plans.

AVID: Decades of College Dreams
During my student teaching, I was offered to take scans from a handbook lended to me by another teacher that she was given during a training session. This handbook contains countless lesson plan ideas, as well as their importance, how to teach them, and examples. All educators can benefit from sharing ideas and resources with one another. It allows for more community between teachers, as well as benefitting students by offering new ideas and variety in the classroom. To the right, I’ve included some of the scans from this handbook that I found interesting and intend to use in the future.
